Where your data lives

Which company does what, in which country, and the two places where the honest answer is more complicated than "all of it is in the EU".

No AWS. No Google Cloud. No Cloudflare. No Vercel. Not for any part of hosting or serving your site.

We name our suppliers because they are good companies, not because we are obliged to. You never configure them, you never need an account with them, and you never see them in the product.

Two honest qualifications

Both of these get glossed over by companies making this claim, so we would rather put them in writing.

The edge is global, on purpose. Your site is delivered from servers around the world, because that is what makes it load quickly for someone opening it in Lisbon or Osaka. The claim we are making is about vendor domicile and data residency: which companies we depend on, and where the copies of your data that we hold actually sit. It is not a claim that bytes are only ever served from inside the EU.

Your source code is your business. If you keep it on GitHub, that is a US company and your repository is where you put it. That is your choice and it is not part of our stack. We read it through a GitHub App with read-only access to repository contents, and nothing more. If you would rather no US company was involved at all, the upload path needs no repository, no commit and no git.

FAQ

The questions worth answering before you hand us anything, including the ones where the answer is no.

Is my site served only from Europe?
No, and you would not want it to be. Delivery is global because that is what makes the site fast for whoever is reading it. What stays in the EU is every company we depend on and every copy of your data we hold.
What about my code on GitHub?
That is yours and it sits wherever you put it. GitHub is your choice of code host and is not part of our stack. If it matters to you, the upload path needs no repository at all.
Do you use AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare or Vercel?
No. None of them, for any part of hosting or serving your site.
Can I get a data processing agreement?
Yes. Email hallo@essentialcode.eu and we will send one.
